Asamoah Gyan Wore The Most Ridiculous Captain's Armband We've Seen

Asamoah Gyan Wore The Most Ridiculous Captain's Armband We've Seen

The former Sunderland striker isn't exactly known for his subtlety at the best of times.

There was a time when we all felt sorry for Asamoah Gyan and were able to ignore the fact that as a striker he chooses to wear the number three on his shirt. But the captain's armband he wore for Ghana's game this weekend

Gyan first came to most people's attention during the 2010 World Cup. In the first World Cup held in Africa he was the main man who took Ghana to the brink of being the first country from the continent to make the semi finals.

Then came the moment that made us feel for him when he blasted his last second penalty against the bar after Luis Suarez handled on the line in the last minute of extra-time in the quarter finals.

However most of our affection towards the striker disappeared when he chose to leave Premier League Sunderland for United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain, playing in a much lower standard of football for loads of money.

So it may be comes as no surprise that the 31 year-old has a bit of a vain streak and he proved that at the weekend by wearing a captain's armband with a picture of his own face on it!

And fans weren't too impressed:

There was apparently a reason for the ridiculous armband but even that was a bit of a fail:

Ghana could face a slap on the wrist from FIFA for the armband for contravening a rule that states, "A captain's armband exclusively provided by FIFA must be used for all Matches of Final Competitions. FIFA may provide two captain's armbands in contrasting Colours."

Oops!

At least they won 5-0 with Gyan scoring.
