The football career of Royston Drenthe took him from the highs of being one of the biggest prospects in Europe to a pretty unknown club in the Middle East. Now Drenthe has hung up his footballing boots for a life as a rapper.

In 2007 Drenthe was part of the hugely talent Netherlands u21 team that won the u21 European Championships. After beating England 13-12 on penalties in the semi-finals a Netherlands team that included talents like Ryan Babel, Erik Pieters, Maceo Rigters and Daniel de Ridder beat Serbia 4-1 in the final.

The Feyenoord full-backs performances for his club and country earned him a move to Real Madrid that summer with Los Blancos forking out 14 million euros for him.

After three seasons at the Bernabeu the dreadlocked Dutchman moved on loan to Hercules and Everton before a move to Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz when his Real contract ended.

Spells in the English Championship with Reading and Sheffield Wednesday followed before he moved to Turkish side Kayseri Erciyesspor and eventually his last club Baniyas Club in the UAE Pro League.

Drenthe was released by Baniyas in July last year and now the 29 year old, yep it's all gone downhill very quickly, has turned his attention to his new career as a rap artist!

Of course he isn't the first footballer to release a rap song. Who can forget Andy Cole's attempt at a rap career. The former Manchester United striker released "Outstanding" in 1999, just months after winning the Treble with Sir Alex Ferguson's team:

At least Drenthe waited till he had no club before deciding on his new career, unlike Cole. The England striker's rap career was dead nearly as soon as it began but who knows if Drenthe will be successful.

Do you prefer Drenthe's song or Andy Cole's song?
