Jose Mourinho Recreates Famous Porto Celebration Vs Man United After Roma's Stunning Injury-Time Winner

Jose Mourinho Recreates Famous Porto Celebration Vs Man United After Roma's Stunning Injury-Time Winner

Speaking after the 2-1 victory over Sassuolo, Roma manager Jose Mourinho said that he "always wanted to remember a match like this."

Jose Mourinho replicated his famous touchline Old Trafford celebration after Stephan El Shaarawy scored a dramatic injury-time winner for Roma.

Bryan Cristante fired Roma into the lead in the first half against Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

However, Filip Djuricic pulled back an equaliser for Sassuolo in the second half as Roma pushed to restore their advantage.

Just as it seemed that Mourinho’s men would be held to a draw, Eldor Shomurodov brought down the ball superbly in the Sassuolo box for an onrushing Shaarawy.

The 28-year-old Italian winger pulled the trigger with a sensational curling strike past a helpless Andrea Consigli.

Mourinho, who was appointed Roma manager in May, couldn’t hold back his excitement as he charged down the touchline with a wild celebration.

The 58-year-old Portuguese head coach was spotted celebrating with his Roma squad in front of the Stadio Olimpico faithful, with Mourinho enjoying his 1,000th match in management in winning ways.

Mourinho famously ran down the Old Trafford touchline after Porto's last-minute equaliser against Manchester United in the Champions League in 2004.

Speaking after the 2-1 win, Mourinho insisted that it was a match “with a special number for me” and he “always wanted to remember a match like this.”

The Roma manager told DAZN: “During the week I was a liar, saying it wasn’t a special match. But it was a special match.

“It was a match with a special number for me and I always wanted to remember a match like this for my 1000th game. I lied to everyone!

“It could have ended six to six, seven to seven, [Roma goalkeeper] Rui Patricio came up with two miracles, we missed a few goals. Extraordinary game, a tremendous emotion.

“Today I am not 58, but 14, when you start dreaming of a career in football. It was a child’s race, I apologised to [Sassuolo head coach Alessio] Dionisi, they played a fantastic game.”

Mourinho’s men have won all three of their opening league matches and are top of Serie A.

Roma will return to action on Thursday in their Group C clash against CSKA Sofia in the Europa Conference League at the Stadio Olimpico.
