Wahbi Khazri Scores Insane 75-Yard Strike From His Own Half For Saint-Etienne

Former Sunderland man Wahbi Khazri scored a Puskas Award contender for Saint-Etienne this afternoon.

Former Sunderland midfielder Wahbi Khazri scored an outrageous goal from his own half for Saint-Etienne against Metz this afternoon.

Metz went 1-0 up nine minutes into the game at Stade Saint-Symphorien but the lead didn't last long after Khazri came up with the most stunning 75-yard strike mere minutes later.

The Tunisian collected the ball in his own box and dribbled away into midfield under no pressure from the opposition.

With a lack of options, Khazri spotted Alexandre Oukidja off his line and ambitiously tried his luck.

Not only did he have the vision, he then executed the strike superbly - with Oukidja scrambling back but sliding back into the net following Khazri's worldie.

The utterly incredible goal, which had shades of Wayne Rooney and David Beckham about it, will surely be in contention for the Puskas Award.

And of course there cannot possibly be any other competition as far as the Ligue One goal of the season competition goes.

Unsurprisingly, the rocket was the furthest goal scored in the French top flight since Opta started recording data in the 2006/07 campaign.

Khazri started his career out with Bastia when they were in lower echelons of French football before going on to score 34 times.

He then turned out for Bordeaux before plying his trade in the Premier League with Sunderland, who he played 42 times for.

He's been with Saint-Etienne since 2018 and enjoyed his best season when he scored 13 times as the team finished in fourth place in his debut campaign.
