Whilst certain other transfer sagas seemed to drag on forever despite only being six months long Mesut Ozil's has essentially been going for a year. Could it be about to come to an end this month?

It seems mad to think but a year ago we were still in the will they or won't they phase of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez signing new deals at Arsenal and that was the beginning of both players' transfer sagas.

At this point we can be pretty sure that the answer is 'they won't.' Not that it was likely to change beforehand but you can't help but feel that a loss to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup only proved the pairs lack of interest in extending their time at the Emirates.

Sanchez seems destined for either PSG or Manchester City but Ozil's future looks slightly less clear. However rumours are getting louder that Jose Mourinho wants a reunion with the player at Manchester United, following their time at Real Madrid together.

According to the Mirror Jose may move for the World Cup winner this month, rather than wait till he is free in the summer, that's because the former Inter Milan manager fears competition in the summer from PSG and potentially Bayern Munich.

There's no guarantee that Arsene Wenger and the club would be willing to let Ozil go six months before they have to but Mourinho is willing to test their resolve with a bid of upto £35 million for the former Schalke midfielder.

The Red Devils, currently second in the Premier League, could spend more money this window, to go with the money spent last summer, and Ozil would be high on Mourinho's priority list, along with a Danny Rose.

A free transfer for PSG would work perfectly for the Ligue 1 side as they come under pressure about FFP after their signings of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. They could sell players and sign Ozil and keep the books and squad balanced.

Ozil's immediate future could be linked to Alexis Sanchez's too. Arsenal would be unlikely to let both leave in January so should City move for the Chilean it could scupper United's plans.
