Thierry Henry recently gave up a career as a football pundit in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a manager and there could soon be his first chance at management in the Championship.

Being a very good footballer does not instantly mean you'll be a very good football manager but this summer Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have both decided to take up the challenge of proving that it can translate.

The two men have had a pretty cushty time of things as pundits for BT Sport since hanging up their boots and done a good job of it too. They could have rested on their laurels but instead they've decided to take on the challenge of being managers, Gerrard at Rangers and Lampard at Derby.

Thierry Henry is another to have stepped away from punditry this summer so he can concentrate on becoming a manager. The Arsenal legend is Belgium's assistant manager, and helped them reach the World Cup semi-final, but his punditry didn't interfere with that role.

Henry decided he needed to drop his work at Sky Sports saying it was to, "fulfil my long-term ambition to become a football manager," now he could have it fulfilled.

According to the Daily Mirror, Henry is one of the targets for the new Aston Villa owners as they consider whether or not to keep Steve Bruce on as manager.

After failing to win promotion Villa were in a lot of financial problems but Egyptian multi-billionaire Nassef Sawiris yesterday brought a 55% stake in the club off Dr Tony Xia.

That means that the Villans are clear of entering administration and are free from their worries over finances and now the new owners are considering what to do, with Bruce and his staff so far kept in the dark.

It would be harsh on Bruce for him to be sacked and after the year he's had he deserves only good things.

The former Manchester United defender lost both his parents in the last few months of the season but still managed to get Villa into the play-offs and the final at Wembley, where they were beaten by Fulham.

Would the new Villa owners be right to sack Bruce and replace him for Henry?
