Alexis Sanchez could be the 'one that got away' for Pep Guardiola when he looks back on his time at Manchester City in a few years time. But the Manchester City manager won't be the only one with Bayern Munich pulling out of a deal to sign him last summer.

Even before the season was in full swing Manchester City didn't exactly look like they were short of attacking options but that didn't stop him wanting to spend £60 million on Alexis Sanchez, a deal that was scuppered on the last day of the summer transfer window.

Now it looks like City will miss out on the former Barcelona player, who initially wanted a reunion with Guardiola, because his desire to leave Arsenal as soon as possible will see him join Manchester United instead.

It's unlikely to damage the Premier League leader's title push this season but could it make United stronger challengers next season?

Well one club could have benefited from bringing the player in this season. Bayern Munich reportedly had a deal in place for the Chilean forward but decided against signing him because of his wage demands and because of their impact on everyone else.

The German side once again don't exactly need Sanchez to help with their title push, as they currently sit 13 points clear of second place RB Leipzig, but they did struggle early in the season and their need would likely come in the Champions League.

Clearly Manchester United feel that the wage demands of the 29 year old are worth paying and that the harmony in the squad is strong enough for it.
