Peter Crouch to Chelsea somehow wasn't the most surprising transfer rumour of January. In the end the Stoke City striker didn't move anywhere and Olivier Giroud went to Chelsea instead but Crouch has had his say on the saga.

January is always a weird month for transfer rumours but Chelsea's desperation for a striker really turned things strange. They may have ended up with a very good signing in Olivier Giroud but that was only after all the weirdness.

Antonio Conte's main priority in the transfer window was to find backup for Alvaro Morata up front and he was surprisingly linked with moves for Andy Carroll, Islam Slimani, Ashley Barnes and Peter Crouch, Edin Dzeko made more sense for sure.

Crouch to Chelsea isn't the only transfer rumour that never happened:

Crouch went on to talk about what he thought of Giroud's move, adding, "I've always admired Olivier Giroud. He is France's No 9, he's been to the World Cup and the Euros and worn that shirt with distinction. He's a top striker and maybe he didn't get as many chances as he deserved at Arsenal.

"Conte likes playing with big target men and you only have to think about how he used Graziano Pelle when he was in charge of Italy. Given Giroud's ability and how Conte wants to play, he will be perfect for Chelsea.

"He was one of the best signings of the window."

Still it's a shame the former England international didn't get one last shot at a big move.
