Surprise Club Interested In Signing Fernando Torres This Summer

The old Fernando would never have gone here but now?

Fernando Torres, once one of the best strikers in the world, doesn't know if his future lies with Atletico Madrid or not. But if it doesn't there will be a slightly out of left field offer on the table for him.

When Torres was tearing up the Premier League in a Liverpool shirt, with Steven Gerrard just behind him in the number 10 role, there were few better strikers.

Before Gerrard's infamous slip it was Torres' goals that took the Reds to the closest they've been to a title in the Premier League era.

Then at the latter end of his time at Anfield and then at Stamford Bridge the Spaniard looked a shadow of his former self and he didn't recover that form.

Torres did eventually find himself back where it all began at the Vicente Calderon in 2015 and whilst things aren't quite the same he has at least become a decent player again.

However this summer his contract is up and as yet there's no guarantee the club will be offering him a new deal to take him to the new stadium.

Deportes en Claro are reporting that should Torres find himself without a club this season then Mexican side Cruz Azul are readying a bid for the 33 year-old.

Paco Jemez manages the Mexican side, having previously managed in La Liga, and is extremely interested in signing Nemanja Vidic' arch nemesis.

Cruz Azul representatives are set to travel to the Spanish capital next week in an attempt to persuade Torres to join them.

The striker's chances of staying with Diego Simeone have arguably been increased in the past week despite Antoine Griezmann deciding to stay at the club.

Atleti were expected to sign Alexandre Lacazette in the summer but their transfer ban has been upheld so the club have to decide if they can afford to lose Torres.

Will Torres stay for one more season?
