If you've got the best striker in the world then you've got to do everything in your power to keep him. For Spurs that will mean smashing their wage structure in order to make Harry Kane the best paid English footballer.

It's nice to know that we've got to the point where I can refer to Kane as the best striker in the world without too many people questioning my knowledge of football, no one scored more than him in Europe in 2017.

There isn't a single team in the world who wouldn't be improved right now with Kane in their starting line up, that includes the likes of PSG, Manchester City and Barcelona.

So it wouldn't come as a surprise to anyone if one of the world's biggest clubs came in for him with a massive offer and with Spurs players famously on lower contracts than everyone expects they'll be some fans wondering what will happen.

Well according to the Daily Mail today they might not have to worry too much longer. The paper report that Spurs are ready to hand their top goalscorer a £200k-a-week contract, making him the Premier League's top paid Englishman.

Raheem Sterling is currently the highest paid English player, earning £180k-a-week at Manchester City ever since Wayne Rooney dropped down to 'just' £115k-a-week when he moved from Manchester United to Everton last summer.

The 24 year old is one of only a few Spurs players currently earning £100k-a-week or more and is actually their top earner since signing a new six year deal, just over a year ago. The new deal will stave off any chance of him leaving anytime soon.

Kane currently earns 'just' £110k-a-week, meaning he's currently below the likes of Javier Hernandez, Christian Benteke, Chris Smalling and Daniel Sturridge in the Premier League's top earner charts.

The news of Spurs breaking their formerly stringent wage structure will be good news for the likes of Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen who could also be in line for big offers from elsewhere.

The important thing for the club now is that they turn their potential into trophies, otherwise all the money in the world won't keep them there.
