Transfer season is already half way over and there's some big deals about to be done it seems but will Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be dipping their feet in the water?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time as Manchester United manager literally couldn't have been better with the new United boss racking up six wins in six games and taking his club back to touching distance with the top four.

There's no doubt that players have been liberated since Jose Mourinho departed from the club, and his Lowry Hotel room, with Paul Pogba suddenly being able to play football again and Marcus Rashford looking like an actual striker.

Despite the definite improvement there's no doubt that United are lacking in some areas of the pitch with centre back, right back and right wing the continued problems for the Red Devils.

Mourinho really wanted a defender in the summer and had he still been at the club there's no doubt he'd have been banging on Ed Woodward's door trying to get the funds for one in this window.

However as Solskjaer is only an interim manager it has seemed unlikely he'd get to sign any players and speaking in his Friday press conference he was asked if he expected any signings answering, "No, not really."

The three very simple words seem to rule out any move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly who has been the name most talked about as a possible centre back signing for United.

It also means that Real Madrid are left in pole position to sign Porto centre back Éder Militão, although the Brazilian is still likely to move to the Bernabeu in the summer rather than now.

Young midfielder Scott McTominay had been linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford but Solskjaer seemed to put an end to that saying, "Scott is working hard, he's a young boy I still believe in, we're working on his contract, with the injuries of Felli [Fellaini] as well and the squad we have I'm not sure we're going to see any movement."

If Solskjaer can keep up his current run then it won't matter that he can't sign anyone new for the rest of the month.
