David Silva Confirms 2019/20 Season Will Be His Last At Manchester City

David Silva Confirms 2019/20 Season Will Be His Last At Manchester City

David Silva has confirmed that next season will be his last in the Premier League, ending a decade of lighting up English football.

Since Sheikh Mansour bought Manchester City there has been a deluge of incredible talent in the blue half of Manchester that has led them to four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups.

One player who is sure to go down as a great is David Silva, with the Spaniard having helped win all of that success since moving from Valencia in 2010.

On Tuesday night the 33-year-old confirmed that next season will be his last in England. Speaking at a press conference in Gran Canaria Silva said, "This is the last one. Ten years for me is enough. It's the perfect time for me. Initially, City were talking about two [more] years.

"It completes the cycle. It's a nice round figure. I can never see myself playing against City for another team. So 10 years - that's it."

The 33 year old joined from La Liga for around £25 million in the summer of 2010 and has had an incredible nine years in England since, becoming an integral part of Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola's sides.

He has amassed nearly 400 appearances for City in all competitions, scoring 70 goals, and is one of the best midfielders of recent years.

The World Cup winner has just one year left on his deal at City currently and it's been rumoured that he could move back to Las Palmas.

Speaking recently he revealed his dream of playing for his hometown club, saying, "I've always said that I've wanted to play for Las Palmas but when next season finishes I'll see. I'll consider what I have left to give, what I want to do and what will be best."

At 33 and with Bernardo Silva now a major part of the team it might have been expected that the elder Silva would have played less last season but Kevin de Bruyne's injury potentially helped him start 28 league games.

He ended the Premier League winning campaign with six goals and eight assists as City completed an unprecedented domestic treble.

Guardiola's team have already lost one elder statesman in the form of Vincent Kompany, who has returned to Anderlecht to become player-manager, and the manager has been trying to sign cover for Fernandinho for a year.

Where does Silva rank amongst the Premier League's greatest?
