Cristiano Ronaldo's teammates weren't as surprised as the rest of us to find out that he was considering leaving Real Madrid with the forward reportedly mentioning it before they beat Liverpool in the final.

So much has come from the Champions League final that it's almost easy to forget that Cristiano Ronaldo made it sound like he was ready to walk away from the Bernabeu, admittedly not for the first time.

There was Mo Salah's potentially World Cup ending injury, Gareth Bale scoring potentially the greatest goal in Champions League final history, Bale hinting he could leave the club, Loris Karius' two mistakes and eventually Zidane stepping down.

One thing that almost past people by was Cristiano Ronaldo also hinting he could leave the Bernabeu saying, "It has been very nice playing at Real Madrid. In the coming days I'll give an answer to my fans, they've always been at my side."

It seemed like strange timing to announce that he might be leaving the club, with the referees whistle barely cold from the final whistle.

However according to Marca Ronaldo had actually told teammates before the final with the five time Ballon d'Or winner talking about his departure in the weeks leading up to the final.

The players are so certain that the former world's most expensive player will be leaving that they actually expect that he's played his last game for Los Blancos.

Of course we have heard this kind of stuff before. Ronaldo's been linked with a return to Manchester United virtually every summer since he moved from Old Trafford in 2009.

Last summer the 33 year old was accused of tax evasion and then felt that Real's lack of support for him wasn't good enough an failed to leave.

Making sure Ronaldo is happy is currently on the back burner for Los Blancos as they look to replace Zinedine Zidane.

One problem the former Sporting winger is that he still has plenty of time left on his contract and it included a one billion euro release clause.

It feels unlikely that Ronaldo will actually leave in the summer but could he?
