Robbie Keane is being lined up for a sensational return to English football, according to reports.

Journalist Tim Nash, writing for The Mirror, says that runaway Championship leaders Wolves are pushing to sign the experienced striker and add him to their table-topping squad.

The 37-year old is currently contracted to Indian Super League champions ATK after joining Teddy Sheringham's side in August.

His contract with the Kolkata-based outfit runs until March but the talk is that he would be able to secure an early release in order to return to English football with Wolves, his former employers many years ago.

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo tried to secure the signing of the Premier League legend in the summer window but the deal with ATK was already in the pipeline.

Their interest remains though, with Nuno feeling Keane's vast experience in the game will prove useful for his charges.

Having joined as a 15-year old, Keane is a Wolves youth product and he made his professional debut at the age of 17.

The Republic of Ireland's all-time top scorer netted a total of 29 goals during his time at the club, before making the move to another Midlands outfit, Coventry City, for £6 million - a British record for a teenager at the time.

He then made the switch to Inter Milan for £13 million but his stint in Italy didn't work out and he was back in England in no-time, having been loaned to Leeds United.

Undoubtedly Keane's best days came in his two spells with Tottenham, which came either side of an unsuccessful £19 million move to Liverpool in 2008. He scored 122 goals in 306 appearances for Spurs, and is eleventh in the club's all-time goalscoring charts.

In total, he's netted 126 Premier League goals for six different clubs in a well-travelled career.

We really want to see Keane return to another one of the "clubs he supported as a kid" and hope to see him roll back the years at Molineux.
