Real Madrid's Isco Reveals His Reaction When Barcelona Contacted Him

The superb Spaniard recalls the moment when their arch rivals tried to lure him away from Madrid.

Imagine Isco playing for Barcelona.

Well, it was nearly a possibility after the club contacted the Real Madrid player in the summer.

Following the mega-sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona eyed up a host of talent in order to fill the Brazilians void.

Not to mention replacing the old guard. Andres Iniesta is heading into the twilight of his career with the Catalans eager to rebuild the midfield.

And they were hoping to poach one of their arch rivals finest players in Isco. Barcelona contacted Real Madrid but ultimately to no prevail.

"There was some contact but I never listened to it," Isco said via Goal.

While the Spanish midfielder is now a regular in Zinedine Zidane's starting XI, a place in the famous white shirt wasn't always guranteed.

But after breaking through, Isco has cemented his position within the team as he continues to enhance his reputation in world football, while harbouring ambition of winning more titles.

"My intention was always to succeed here in a team that had confidence in me. I want to consolidate my position as a starter and win many titles.

Following his heroics in the middle of the park, Isco was awarded with a brand spanking new contract with an insane £623 million release clause.

He's penned an extension which keeps him at the iconic Bernabeu till 2022.

"The timing is merely anecdotal, I could have renewed last year but I wanted to be focused on the season, I was always determined to re-sign," he added.

Isco is churning out impressive performances in the league and in Europe following the confident instilled in him by Zidane.

"From the first day he arrived, he told me he believed in me. He showed me his confidence from the very first moment and I've been patient.

"In the end this is a team game and you must wait for your moment."
