Despite spending a lot of money in recent times it's obvious Manchester United still have a lot of improving to do. One player has confirmed that Jose Mourinho's side have already tried to sign him.
Jose Mourinho has spent a lot of money since arriving as manager of Manchester United after the 2015/16 season in which Louis van Gaal only managed to finish fifth, despite winning the FA Cup against Crystal Palace.
The thought that is despite signing players likes Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez and Nemanja Matic it's still not enough as the side that he inherited following the reigns of David Moyes and Van Gaal just weren't good enough.

Check out these classic Mourinho quotes:
That does hold up to some degree and Mourinho is doing pretty well considering he's won the EFL Cup and Europa League and currently has United sitting in second in the league behind the ridiculous Manchester City side but that hasn't really softened the blow of Tuesday night's Champions League exit to Sevilla.
Following that match Steven Gerrard figured United needed to spend more money and should Jose be there in the summer you can guarantee he'll be making sure that happens.

One player he's long been linked with is Real Madrid's Raphael Varane and the Frenchman, talking to El Larguero, was asked if Mourinho had made contact and he said, "No, not directly. There were contacts, but not directly."
So the former Real Madrid manager has not spoken to the player he signed for Los Blancos in 2011 but it seems that he has spoken to someone in his camp, potentially his agent.
Varane has been linked with United for a while, especially since Mourinho became a manager, and the inconsistent form of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling suggests he needs a new centre back.
The former Chelsea manager is reportedly targeting two central midfielders in the summer whilst full-backs could also be a priority considering the paucity of options behind Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young.

Varane would be an excellent signing for Mourinho and the Red Devils but it's an extremely ambitious target.
