"Captain's log; January 2nd: It is only two days into January and already I am beaten by the transfer window. I know I will write more about it in the coming month and hope god can help me to hang on till February..."

With the January transfer window comes renewed hope for many teams that maybe just maybe they can win some silverware this season or help shape themselves for victory next season.

For Liverpool fans wanting to avoid saying 'next year's our year' meanwhile thinking it the recent Virgil van Dijk signing brings hope that their team may one day actually remember how to defend.

Arsenal are another side in need of hope that they can challenge for the Premier League title in the future but the inevitable losses of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil leave them with space to fill.

According to Marca one of those vacancies could be filled in January. The Spanish paper report that PSG could sell Portuguese forward Goncalo Guedes in January, rather than wait till the summer as was initially expected.

The 21 year old is currently on loan with Valencia and has been one of their stand out players during a season that has seen them stay above Real Madrid in La Liga, third at the moment.

However the Spanish club don't have an option to buy the player and with the Parisians needing to make money to stave off any threat of being in breach of FIFA's FFP rules over the signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe they could be willing to sell in January to the highest bidder.

Valencia will likely try to put together a bid for the £31 million rather player but the Gunners will be able to offer him a better financial package if they choose to do so, with the player being linked to the Gunners just a month ago.

One thing that could stand in the Premier League side's way is the face that Guedes will want guaranteed first team football in the build up to this summer's World Cup.
