Until the Argentina star confirms he is leaving the club there will remain hope from fans that he stays put with the Catalan giants, though that is looking ever more unlikely.

Messi's huge wages in combination with the club's financial problems aren't a good mix, with the club's interim president recently saying he would have sold the player in the summer.

Another source from inside the club confirmed that employees in the club's office were disappointed when he stayed due to the belief it would lead to some of them losing their jobs.

Presidential candidate Emili Rousaud has said that the club's all time top scorer would have to take a big pay-cut from his reported £500,000-a-week wages if he were to stay.
