PSG Have To Raise A Lot Of Money To Avoid FFP Sanctions

PSG Have To Raise A Lot Of Money To Avoid FFP Sanctions

The Ligue 1 leaders have been pretty free spending in recent years but that might have to stop soon enough.

In the last seven years PSG have spent an estimated £841.55 million on transfers since they became rich with oil money. However that spending might have to slow down soon with the club having to make money back to avoid FFP sanctions.

PSG have been among the biggest spenders in football in the last few years as they first tried to conquer France and after that attempted to conquer Europe, something they are still yet to do.

In the summer they broke the transfer record for the first time when they spent £198 million on Neymar but that wasn't enough for them and they also brought in Kylian Mbappe, although the €180 million from that transfer isn't even included in their total spend as it's only a loan right now.

With all that spending you'd have thought UEFA's Financial Fair Play might come back to bite them on the backside at some point but apparently, according to L'Equipe, via AS, UEFA have checked the Parisians finances and everything checks out, for now.

That won't be the case for so long though. The paper also explains that before June 30th this year the Ligue 1 leaders need to make €70 million euros or face the prospect of not being allowed into the Champions League or Europa League.

The French league leaders had a busy summer with the signings of Neymar and Mbappe but it looks like most of the transfers next summer will be outgoings as they look to recuperate that money.

Lassana Diarra has just signed for free today and future free transfers like Mesut Ozil or Emre Can could appeal with their current situation.

Players like Angel di Maria, Julian Draxler, Lucas Moura could be on the way out of the club whilst Goncalo Guedes, currently on loan at Valencia will also likely be sold.

It's not like there isn't plenty of talent for Unai Emery to sell and still keep a pretty strong squad, not that the manager is likely to be there next season.
