Jack Rodwell could be the next England success story with the former Sunderland player about to be handed a lifeline to his football career by a Premier League club after a terrible few years.
English football is suddenly on the crest of a wave. If 'football' means the World Cup trophy then no it didn't come home however it 'football' is merely the fun and enjoyment we feel when the national team plays then there's no denying it finally came home.
The problem for English football is keeping the momentum up. Whether that's Gareth Southgate and his team or whether that's more young English footballers getting chances at big clubs, as we've seen before that doesn't always happen.
Jack Rodwell is a great example of talent gone astray after making a big move. His transfer to Manchester City on the back of major promise with Everton never worked out and he ended up at Sunderland.

The years at the Black Cats were difficult, especially for Rodwell, and injuries and form meant he never got going. Last season he only played three games all term, none past last September, despite being fit all season and was released from his contract at the end of the season.
Now, according to Gianluca di Marzio, Watford are ready to offer him a trial and a chance to move back to the Premier League for Javi Gracia's side.
Rodwell, who can sign for a club for free as he has no contract, was linked to Bolton earlier this summer whilst Di Marzio also reports there is interest from Serie A and the MLS as well.

Watford though would be the 27 year old's preferred move as he hopes to return to the Premier League, as Sunderland head down to League One at the same time.
Back in January Rodwell revealed he believed he could still make the England team as a centre back saying, "I do believe I'm a Premier League player and I do believe I'm an England international when I'm fit and on form.
"...Growing up through the England ranks I was captain and those three senior caps have left me wanting more. I still think it's well within my reach, especially at centre back. I just need a good run where I can really express myself and people say, 'Wow, Jack's back.'
It seemed a ridiculous statement at the time but suddenly Rodwell could be back in the Premier League and who knows what happens from there, another ball playing defender for Gareth Southgate perhaps?
