Jonny Evans isn't exactly the most exciting player in world football, in fact the centre back would be quite far down that list, but sometimes a team needs to be less frills and more Evans. Which is why two sides want him in January.

To say that Evans isn't the most exciting isn't meant as an insult, not everyone can be Ronaldinho- although football would see a huge increase in goals if even the centre backs decided to be like the Brazilian.

However since leaving Manchester United, after being sold by Louis van Gaal, the Northern Ireland defender has actually turned himself into one of the Premier League's best and most underrated centre backs.

In the summer Pep Guardiola was very interested in signing him but Tony Pulis was steadfast in his decision not to sell one of his best players. That left Manchester City with no new centre backs.

According to The Telegraph the Citizens will try again in January to sign the 29 year old but they will also have competition from Arsenal in the winter transfer window.

City made a £30 million bid in the summer and were rebuffed and then Arsenal made a £25 million bid of their own on transfer deadline day but the Baggies were determined to keep their man.

John Stones' injury has kept Pep Guardiola on the lookout for more defensive cover and Real Sociedad's Inigo Martinez is apparently also on his list of possible signings.

The Gunners are often playing with three at the back and with Per Mertesacker retiring at the end of the season Wenger is on high alert and if City make a move for Evans then they are likely to follow.

Evans is a very viable option because he'd also be available to play in the Champions League this season. West Brom may see it as a way of getting some money in to add more to the rest of their squad.

Where will Evans be by the end of January?
