Neymar's Value Has Dropped Up To €90 Million Since The Beginning Of The Year
Neymar's transfer from Barcelona to PSG two years ago makes him the most expensive player ever but his value has dropped a huge amount just since the start of the year.
When Neymar decided to stop living in the shadow of Lionel Messi and move to PSG he cost the French club an incredible £198 million, smashing the previous transfer record by over £100 million.
It completely changed the value of players in the transfer market but it hasn't completely changed his career or the success of PSG with the French club continuing to dominate domestically but unable to find success in Europe.
There's been many rumours of the Brazilian wanting to leave the French capital but if PSG were to sell they might not get their money back. According to CIES Observatory, everyone's favourite transfer nerds, Neymar's value has dropped up to €90 million just this year.
At the turn of the year the 27 year old was still worth €213 million, just short of what they paid for him, but his value is now 'just' €120-150 million.
Injuries are likely to have played a big part in the drop off in the former Santos' forward's value with two periods out this season.
He got injured at the beginning of the year, in time to be around for his sister's birthday, and missed the Champions League games with Manchester United.
The forward returned in time for the end of the season but has picked up another injury for Brazil ahead of the Copa America, which has ruled him out of the home tournament.
With another injury last season the Brazilian has played just 51.8% of games for his club since transfering, in comparison to 87% of games played by Lionel Messi for Barca in the same period.
Neymar has recently been in the headlines because of an accusation of rape against him. Mastercard dropped him from an advertising campaign amid the allegations while Nike said they were 'very concerned' by the accusations and would 'monitor the situation'
The former Barca man has been linked with a return to the Catalan giants with the move for Antoine Griezmann looking unlikely from Ernesto Valverde's team.
How much would Neymar cost now?
