Despite interest from a host of European clubs, including the likes of Manchester United, teenage sensation Erling Braut Haaland has decided to join Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund on a four-and-a-half year deal.

The 19-year-old Norwegian striker was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, especially over the past month.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even travelled to meet Haaland's representatives in December as a deal looked to be close.

But after all the rumours, it is believed the club pulled out of a deal for the player after they refused to agree to a buyout clause and percentage of future sales.

According to the Manchester Evening News, among other sources, Haaland's representatives, which include agent Mino Raiola, wanted to secure a share from future sales of Haaland as part of the transfer.

It was a major detail United were unwilling to agree on.

The Premier League side were 'unprepared to put themselves in a position where the agent could effectively control the sell-on, rather than the club.'

Haaland, who has netted 28 goals in 22 games in all competitions this term, will instead join Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga outfit have paid around £18 million for his services thanks to a release clause in his deal, with Haaland poised to earn around £130,000 a week in Germany.

The 19-year-old expressed his delight in signing for the club after penning a deal until 2024.

"I had intensive discussions with the club management and the sports management, especially with Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and trainer Lucien Favre," Haaland said.

"There was a feeling right from the start that I absolutely wanted to switch to this club, go this route and play football in this incredible Dortmund atmosphere in front of more than 80,000 spectators. I'm already burning for it."
