Premier League Side Considering Snapping Up Jonny Evans For £3 Million If West Brom Go Down

Premier League Side Considering Snapping Up Jonny Evans For £3 Million If West Brom Go Down

It's a very appealing investment.

After the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth last week left them 10 points adrift of safety, West Bromwich Albion appear to be as good as relegated and you can expect club captain Jonny Evans to leave on the cheap as a result.

The former Manchester United man has a clause in his contract which means he can leave the Hawthorns for £3 million in the summer if West Brom drop down to the Championship - which is basically a given at this point.

News of the lowly release clause was doing the rounds in January when both Arsenal and Manchester City were linked with the Northern Ireland international.

City's need for a new defender has lessened following the £57 million arrival of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao, though Arsenal may well go back in for Evans.

However, as per The Telegraph, the Gunners face stiff competition from their North London rivals Spurs.

According to the report from Matt Law, Tottenham are considering activating the £3 million get-out clause for Evans if the Baggies go down as expected.

At present, they aren't exactly short of options in central defence but will require a new investment if Toby Alderweireld departs when the summer window rolls around.

The Belgium international has been stalling on a new deal and has the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Barcelona circling.

Daniel Levy, a typically savvy negotiator, may well look to cash in on Alderweireld for £40 million, as opposed to a potential £25 million fee 12 months down the line.

Getting such a big fee for a wantaway player and replacing him with an experienced player for a bargain would represent good business, though plenty of Spurs supporters are against it:

Would Evans be a good fit for Spurs? Who else should be in for him?
