Now He's Broke United Record, Is Rooney Set To Leave Old Trafford?

Huge offers from China are apparently waiting for him

It has taken all of five minutes for Wayne Rooney to be linked with a mega money move away from Manchester United after breaking the club's goal scoring record, against Stoke City yesterday.

Reports are now beginning to do the rounds suggesting that an astronomical offer from the Chinese Super League is to be put on the table for Rooney to mull over, with his Old Trafford future still shrouded in doubt.

Despite breaking Bobby Charlton's record of 249 goals in a Manchester Unied shirt, Rooney has found himself on the fringes of Jose Mourinho's starting XI for most of the season, used in a substitute's role for much of the last four months after enduring a poor start to the current campaign.

Wayne Rooney is just as good value off the pitch as he is on it, as these memorable tweets prove...

With United planning a Summer swoop for Antoine Griezmann that could potentially break the world record £89m fee the club parted with for Paul Pogba, last August, there would be even less need for Rooney in Mourinho's squad, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all preferred or more preferable long term options than the United captain.

No clubs have been identified as holding a firm interest in the England skipper, but it is believed several in China would willingly part with an insane £1m-per-week to secure Rooney's services, dwarfing the £615,000-per-week Carlos Tevez currently rakes in with Shanghai Shenhua.

In November, Beijing Guoan chairman Luo Ning claimed that Rooney had turned down a chance to move to the Chinese Super League outfit, opting instead to see out the season in the Premier League:

"We indeed made an approach for Rooney at the beginning of the season but he's informed us that he wants to stay in Manchester United.

"Rooney says he'll keep playing in the Premier League as long as his health allows. We even met with his agent."

But with Bobby Charlton's record broken, his best years behind him and a full trophy cabinet secured, will Rooney now be more comfortable leaving England behind for the final few years of his glittering career?
