Nantes have reportedly demanded payment from Cardiff City over the £15 million transfer of Emiliano Sala, according to BBC Wales.
Cardiff have withheld the first scheduled payment until they are satisfied with the documentation.
The report claims Nantes are threatening legal action if they don't receive payment within 10 days.
Cardiff will honour the deal but not until they have clarified 'all the facts'. They are also 'surprised' the French club have asked for a cut of the transfer fee amid a private-funded search.

The Argentine striker completed a transfer to Cardiff in January and traveled back to France. But upon returning to Wales, he went missing flying across the English channel.
The plane carrying both Sala and pilot Dave Ibbotson has been found, their families have been told.
A search boat recovered the wreckage of the aircraft, and a body has since been found. Attempts are being made to recover the body.
