United failed to come to terms with Barcelona for Dembele.

Manchester United not signing Ousmane Dembele cost Barcelona two major signings on transfer deadline day.

United set their sights on Dembele after failing to land their No.1 transfer target Jadon Sancho.

But they couldn't agree terms with Barcelona for the 23-year-old Frenchman.

As a result, Barcelona were unable to complete their own deals. Failing to offload Dembele prevented them from signing Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia.

Barcelona were strongly with Depay and Garcia during the extended summer transfer window.

However, both men stayed at their respective clubs after Barcelona couldn't get rid of Dembele.

The La Liga giants had agreed a reported £22.5 million deal for Lyon's Dutch star who was ready to leave France for Spain.

Though his move to Barcelona relied on Dembele switching sides.

And the same goes for the Manchester City defender who intends to leave the Premier League club when his contract expires next summer.

Barcelona, though, completed the signings of Miralem Pjanic, Trincao, Sergino Dest and Matheus Fernandes earlier in the transfer window.

As for United, they snapped up four signings on deadline day.

Alex Telles arrived from Porto in a transfer worth £15 million while Amad Traore, who cost £37 million, will head to his new team in January.

The Red Devils also secured the services of former Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani on a free transfer.

Facundo Pellistri penned a deal at Old Trafford, too.
