For every Manchester United transfer that does happen there are at least 300 transfer rumours that don't, a conservative estimate admittedly, but could one rumour that looked certain be complete nonsense?

Manchester United are hardly alone in having a lot of players linked with them, basically the more moneyyou have the more likely it is to happen.

In recent years though the Red Devils have been handily used to help players get new contracts at their current clubs, Sergio Ramos being the main example, seemingly leading to more transfer links with them.

That's rife this summer even more due to the fact that Jose Mourinho's side clearly have a lot of catching up to do if they are to challenge for the title this season.

According to multiple reports Alvaro Morata is United's top target, to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and many believe that a deal with Real Madrid isn't far away.

However Real president Florentino Perez, talking to El Primer Paolo radio, denied those reports saying:

"I believe we are not negotiating with Manchester United , which does not mean that there are not people around him who are talking, which is normal.

"I have read that we have reached an agreement for I don't know how many million Euros, but it is not true."

Morata's manager Juanma Lopez has reportedly held meetings with Perez to discuss the players future and it is believed that he wants to leave.

However the Real president's latest news makes it sound like a deal isn't imminent, although that doesn't mean that can't suddenly change.

The Red Devils have also been linked with a high profile move for James Rodriguez who is definitely not needed at the Bernabeu.

Could United be about to miss out on their number one target or is Perez just bullshitting?
