The 'announcement' that Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to leave Real Madrid was sport's equivalent of Theresa May calling a snap election, it threw everyone into a bit of panic. But it looks like his decision was better planned out than the Prime Minister's.

News came from Portugal yesterday that Ronaldo had made the 'irreversible' decision to leave not only Real Madrid but Spain and there was nothing anyone could do to stop him.

Everyone instantly hit the crazy button on social media as rumours about which club he might go to started buzzing around and Manchester United fans lost their shit at the thought of Ronaldo coming back.

As the day wore on more sources seemed to confirm the news that Real Madrid's highest ever goalscorer had no intention of returning to the Bernabeu once the Confederations Cup and his holiday were over.

However this hasn't all come out of the blue as much as we thought. According to the Daily Mail, Ronaldo's super agent Jorge Mendes actually met with Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago.

The report says that Mendes, easily the biggest agent in football with a ridiculous catalogue of clients, met with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi in a hotel in Cardiff just hours before the Champions League final.

Whilst his agent was discussing how much a transfer might cost and the wages that PSG might have to pay Ronaldo was getting ready for one of the biggest matches of his career and a game in which he would score two decisive goals as Real became the first team to defend the Champions League.

Mendes does have Angel di Maria on his books who is at PSG whilst the Parisiens have also been trying to add Pepe, another Mendes client, to their squad but the Mail say the agent tipped off the billionaire owner that 'problems were imminent' with Ronaldo.

The player's unhappiness comes off the back of a lawsuit being filed against him for alleged tax fraud between 2011 and 2014, the same allegations that Lionel Messi was recently found guilty for.

PSG are certainly one of the few teams who could afford Ronaldo and would love to add him to their side.

Could he actually leave Los Blancos this summer?
