Bayern Munich have made a major step in signing Lucas Hernández from Atlético Madrid after triggering the defender's €80m release clause.
Marca reports that the 22-year-old Frenchman played his last match for the Spanish club against Deportivo Alavés, with him being forced off the pitch due to injury.
The French international, who was previously a target for Manchester United, is contracted with Los Rojiblancos until 2024.
However, it looks like Hernández is apparently ready to leave the Wanda Metropolitano behind and pen a four-year deal with the reigning Bundesliga champions.
Should the deal be completed in January, then Hernández would become the Bavarians' club-record signing.
The club smashed their previous record when they
completed the signing of Corentin Tolisso in 2017 for €41.5m from Lyon.

Lucas Hernandez for 85M is steep but he can play CB, LB and is just a quality defender who already has big game experience.

Lucas Hernandez would mean the de Ligt transfer is definetly off, but I would be completely fine with this.
Huge if true.

Absolutely Fucking insane that a club like Bayern are going all out for Lucas Hernandez for a massive 85 million euros, has to be Bayern's most expensive player ever.
That came outta nowhere.
His versatility should do Bayern a world of good.
