Everton Beat Arsenal To Signing Of Highly Rated Young Striker

Everton Beat Arsenal To Signing Of Highly Rated Young Striker

Arsene Wenger won't be too happy that he's missed out on the signing to Ronald Koeman's Everton.

Time was that Arsene Wenger was the king of signing obscure young talents from around Europe, usually France. But these days the Arsenal manager can't even claim to be the best at that after missing out on a transfer target to Everton.

Maybe the signing of Yaya Sanogo proved to be the end of Wenger's ability to sign someone the rest of us hadn't heard of as the French striker just didn't work out before finally being released this summer.

These days Wenger and the Gunners are more frequently signing big names such as Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech, or at least that's the kind of player they're linked with having reportedly missed out on the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema every year.

Perhaps Arsenal's biggest task in the transfer window this summer is getting Ozil and Sanchez to sign new contracts at the Emirates but equally he needs to improve his team in order to get back into the top four.

However the Frenchman has been hit by a blow as Anderlecht forward Henry Onyekuru, who was the Belgian league's top scorer last season, has moved to Everton.

Onyekuru scored 22 times for Super League side KAS Eupen last term, with no one scoring more goals than him, mightily impressive when playing for a team who finished 13th out of a league of 16 teams.

The 20 year old Nigerian will sign for the Toffees but then move back to the Belgian Super League with champions Anderlecht for a year long loan, where he will also get experience in Europe.

Whilst the news comes as a blow to Arsenal, who have only brought in defender Sead Kolasinac so far this summer, it is a boost to Everton who have had a good summer so far.

The Goodison Park side have already signed Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen this summer.
