Marco Silva has finally become the new Everton manager in what must be considered the least surprising of all the managerial appointments to have happened this summer.

Back in October Everton were desperate to get their hands on Marco Silva. At the time he was in charge at Watford but had only been in his position since the previous summer having moved following relegation with Hull City.

The Hornets were flying high in the Premier League and the Toffees were looking like they might be involved in a relegation battle when they decided to sack Ronald Koeman.

Silva was the number one target of owner Farhad Moshiri but Watford refused to sell even with a large release fee being offered by the Merseysiders.

Everton went for Allardyce and 'Big Sam' kept them in the league and even led them to a comfortable top half finish, ending up eighth at the end of the season but the fans never liked the style of play or the manager's perceived arrogance.

In the meantime Watford's form dropped off a cliff and after a 2-0 loss to Leicester City in January the club decided to sack Silva.

They blamed Everton for their slide in form for turning the manager's head and said in a statement, "This has been a difficult decision and one not taken lightly. The club is convinced the appointment of Silva was the right one and had it not been for the unwarranted approach by a Premier League rival for his services we would have continued to prosper under his leadership.

"The catalyst for this decision is that unwarranted approach, something which the board believes has seen a significant deterioration in both focus and results to the point where the long-term future of Watford has been jeopardised. For the security and success of the football club, the board believes it has to make a change."

When Allardyce left at the end of the season, sacked by the club, it was always likely that Silva was going to replace him having been out of work since the turn of the year.

Will Silva be everything that Everton ever wanted?
