Atlético Madrid Captain Diego Godín ‘On The Verge Of Joining Inter Milan’

Atlético Madrid are set to lose club captain Diego Godín, with Inter Milan close to signing him on a free transfer in the summer.

Diego Godín is on the verge of making a sensational exit from Atlético Madrid after reports suggest that Inter Milan will sign him on a free transfer in the summer.

According to Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, the Atlético Madrid captain will reportedly sign a two-year contract that will see him move to the San Siro next season.

The Italian club also have the option to extend his contract by a further year.

Di Marzio claims that the 32-year-old centre-back, who was a target for Manchester United last summer, and I Nerazzurri only have the 'final details' of the deal to finalise.

Sky Sports and the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano has also posted on Twitter that Inter Milan are 'preparing contracts and medical examinations' for the Uruguay captain.

Atlético Madrid signed Godín from Villarreal in 2010 for an initial fee of about £6.6m (€8m).

Since then, he has made 259 appearances for Los Rojiblancos and become a formidable presence in Diego Simeone's side.

He has won several honours during his time at Atlético Madrid, including La Liga, the Copa del Rey, Europa League and the Super Cup.
