Alexis Sanchez is a Manchester United player.

The Chilean has penned a four-and-a-half-year contract at Old Trafford, worth a reported whopping £56 million.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan goes the other way.

Meanwhile, Sanchez, 29, calls time on his career at the Emirates. He arrived in the English capital from the La Liga in 2014, and has spent three-and-a-half seasons in North London.

It's a huge coup for United following the interest expressed by cross-town rivals, Manchester City. The Premier League leaders tabled a £60 million bid in the summer, before offering £20 million in January but to no prevail.

Pep Guardiola was hellbent on reuniting with the player at City following their stint together at Barcelona.

However, Guardiola and Co. left the race to sign him after they were unable to meet Arsenal's demands.

But, Jose Mourinho has hijacked the transfer, luring Sanchez to the red side of Manchester.

Sanchez, who takes the illustrious No.7 shirt at United, expressed his delight over becoming the first Chilean to play for the club.

"I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world," he told the official United website.

"I have spent three-and-a-half wonderful years at Arsenal and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans. The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down.

"I am very proud to be the first Chilean player ever to play for United's first team and I hope I can show our fans all around the world why the club wanted to bring me here."

In joining United, Alexis has become the 12th player to play for Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. His new boss is unsurprisingly ecstatic with his purchase, but also thanked Henrikh Mkhitaryan for his contributions.

"Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players," he said.

"He will bring his ambition, drive and personality, qualities that make a Manchester United player and a player that makes the team stronger and the supporters proud of their club dimension and prestige.

"I would like to wish Henrikh all the success and happiness that I am sure he is going to get. He is a player that we will not forget, especially for his contribution to our Europa League victory."
