Newly promoted teams are almost always the favourites to go straight back down but not in the case of Newcastle United. However the Magpies will still be hoping to improve their team with this signing.

When they were relegated just a year ago it was thought that Newcastle might have been too good to go down and they were certainly too good for the Championship.

The latter part of that theory was certainly true as they ended up being champions of England's second tier, although only just after the last day of the season turn around.

Last summer Rafa Benitez strengthened his team by bringing in the likes of Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu, although the latter was merely on loan.

Since promotion the north-east side have only added Atsu on a permanent deal to their squad. But Benitez is hoping to bring another midfielder from a Premier League side.

According to Newcastle Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder the club have opened talks with Liverpool for England youngster Sheyi Ojo.

Ojo impressed at the under 20 World Cup that England won, often coming on as a substitute to make a positive impact on the game, but he won't get much first team football this season at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp would obviously like the player to go out on loan to get Premier League experience before returning to Liverpool and Newcastle will face opposition from Burnley for the player.

Ojo made two appearances last season for the Reds but both came in the FA Cup.

Rafa Benitez' side certainly needs a boost and he has been left frustrated by the lack of activity in the transfer market so far.

That has led to some rumours that he could leave St James' Park before the season already begins.

Maybe this loan move can save him!
