Perhaps the most striking part of Manchester United's disaster of a performance against Spurs in midweek was the sight of Marouane Fellaini going off seven minutes after coming on and Jose Mourinho used the injury to his favour.

United were dreadful on Wednesday night at Wembley. Taking nothing away from Spurs, who were bloody brilliant, but the Red Devils were way below their best, or even their usual, right from the kick off.

One player who really didn't have a good game was Paul Pogba. The French midfielder ended his undefeated streak and was taken off for one of the the first times during his second stint at Old Trafford, other than when he's been injured.

He was replaced Marouane Fellaini but the former Everton midfielder lasted just eight minutes until Mourinho had to take him off because of an injury sustained in his first challenge since coming on.

The 30 year old is out of contract at the end of the season and so far there's no movement with an extension but Mourinho revealed he tried to use the injury to get Fellaini to sign a new deal:

"I told him yesterday, 'Sign the contract and shut up.' I told him, 'Don't gamble too much. Sign the contract before you know the extent of the injury.'

"It is not an ACL, a complete rupture of any structure of the knee. But we need him, the Champions League is arriving and lots of tough matches to play and probably we are going to lose him for a few weeks. Two, three, four or five, I cannot say at the moment."

At first people were baffled on Wednesday night as it didn't look like the tall Belgian was in too much trouble when he came off and most people just thought that it was a very harsh tactical change.

Ander Herrera was quickly rushed on with Mourinho looking very angry just after his side had let Spurs run through them once again so it looked like the change wasn't for an injury.

Marcus Rashford had been readied to come on but he had to go back to the bench and missed out on the final few minutes.
