Just when it appeared that Mesut Ozil was set to put pen-to-paper to a new lucrative contract, reports out of Germany are claiming the German ace is weighing up a return to Spain.

The 27-year-old playmaker's current contract expires in 2018 and has been subject to ongoing negotiations in order to extend his stay at the Emirates. Bild had initially reported that agreements were in place to see him receive a huge pay rise from £140,000-a-week to a reported whopping £200,000-a-week.

While the potential new contract hinged on two particulars. Firstly, he wanted to don the No.10 shirt vacated by Jack Wilshere's loan move to Bournemouth, and secondly a request for the club to recruit major reinforcements in the transfer market.

But Bild are now stating that a move back to Real Madrid is back on the cards even calling it a "dream" return. The latest revelations will only infuriate the Arsenal faithfuls after they were under the impression he'd committed till 2021.

As well as Ozil, Arsenal are also looking to tie down teammate Alexis Sanchez to a new contract with Arsene Wenger originally hoping to have finalised them before the summer though neither men signed on the dotted line.
