Mauricio Pochettino Eyes Huge Deal For La Liga Star

Mauricio Pochettino Eyes Huge Deal For La Liga Star

This would be an excellent move.

Poor old Tottenham Hotspur, the forgotten story in this crazy Premier League story. Whilst I hoped they wouldn't pip Leicester to the title if it hadn't been for the Foxes we'd all have been Spurs fans, apart from Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham fans of course. So can Spurs "go again?"

The perceived wisdom is that Mauricio Pochettino's side has a better chance of challenging for the Premier League title next season than Leicester and that they'll be up there with Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, at least for the first part of the season until their inevitable collapse to third or fourth, battling for silverware.

And the Argentine is looking towards Spain to strengthen his squad for next season's jaunt in the Champions League, not a bad place to go considering it's the second all Spain final in three years and La Liga clubs are having a very strong era in all European competitions.

Pochettino is hoping to poach Atletico Madrid starlet Saul Niguez. By poach we mean spend a lot of money convincing him that White Hart Lane is the place to be. The midfielder would cost £36 million, his release clause, which isn't too bad however in order to capture him Spurs are willing to offer him a massive £200k-a-week, smashing their current top earner.

Niguez was the scorer of the incredible solo goal that helped send Atleti through to the Champions League final in May later this month and has previously also been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Unfortunately for Spurs fans it doesn't sound too much like Atletico president Enrique Cerezo thinks he'll be losing the 21 year old any time soon when he recently said:

"Saúl has a contract with us.

"He's a player from our academy and is Atletico through and through. From what I know, and from what he himself has told me, he wants to stay with us."

Diego Simeone's side are thought to be offering their player a new contract pretty soon so it's no wonder that Spurs are willing to thrown down a ton of money in an attempt to turn the Spaniard's head towards North London.
