Marco Asensio could have easily been a Barcelona player. The Spanish starlet ultimately moved to Real Madrid from Real Mallorca, and his agent has revealed the reason for the Catalan snub.

The 21-year-old continued his fast track to greatness following his two unreal goals against Barcelona. He bagged at the Camp Nou then in front of the Bernabeu faithfuls.

Asensio unleashed a thunderbastard of a strike into the top corner leaving Marc-André ter Stegen with no chance while effectively killing the tie. His goal made it 3-1 on the night ahead of the second leg.

And minutes into the second El Clasico in the matter of three days, Asensio netted an equally terrific goal to hand Real Madrid an early lead while improving their aggregate score.

He was the source of Barcelona's downfall, but the player who dons the famous all white kit could've been playing alongside Lionel Messi and Co.

Asensio's agent Horacio Gaggioli has detailed Barcelona's offer for the then-Real Mallorca star. Gaggioli, who struck the deal for Lionel Messi to Barcelona, claims how they failed to haggle over 2 million euros.

"I liked him a lot," says Gaggioli via Bleacher Report.

"He was grandisimo, a great footballer. He was spectacular in every sense. He had things you could see would make him an important player, just like Messi."

Barcelona tabled a €2.5 million offer. Though his club were holding out for €4.5 million.

Gaggioli continues by saying: "Barca said, 'No, we're not able.' They lost the opportunity. When they changed their mind after three months, it was too late."

There you have it. Barcelona's reluctant to cough up an extra 2 million euros saw them lose out on one of the hottest properties to their fierce rivals.
