Alexis Sanchez hasn't lit up Old Trafford since his move to Manchester United just over a year ago but Marc Overmars thinks the Chilean could return to Arsenal at some point.

Just over a year ago Alexis Sanchez was still being considered as one of the best players in the Premier League, Arsenal were worried about losing him for nothing and both Manchester United and Manchester City were ready to go into a transfer war for him.

In the end the Gunners' managed to get rid of him in a swap for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jose Mourinho was left to gloat over Pep Guardiola that he'd beaten his rival to their number one transfer target.

Outside of a playing the piano, the FA Cup semi final last year against Spurs and the recent FA Cup game against Arsenal things have been far from good for Sanchez at Old Trafford.

In 37 games for the club the former Barcelona forward has only scored five times, in comparison to his 80 goals in 166 games for the Gunners.

However despite all that former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars thinks there's a chance Sanchez will return to the Emirates. Speaking to radio station AND Deportes, in Chile, the Dutchman said:

"I have great respect for Alexis, because he did extremely well in Arsenal, but I do not know if it was a good decision to leave.

"English football changes you, it turns you around, and it took me a step forward. Arsene Wenger arrived a year before me, Dennis Bergkamp made a big impression England. It was a fantastic time, I think we changed the history of the club a bit.

"These type of players were very important for Arsenal, because that's where they take you to focus, after Alexis, Arsenal tried to sign another player like that, but he was not given, so he could go back to Arsenal."

Stranger things have happened but looking at everything to do with Sanchez's move and his form since it seems really unlikely.

The former Udinese player wanted to earn similar as the highest paid players in the world, hence not signing a new deal, but on leaving Mesut Ozil was handed a new deal worth the mega bucks his former teammate wanted.

Things haven't worked out for Ozil either as he can't get in Unai Emery's side right now.

Overmars has been linked with a return to Arsenal as director of football but if he's going to bring Sanchez back then fans might not want him to join.
