Jose Mourinho is reportedly ready to splash the cash for West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic in January in order to get his Manchester United team into the top four and next season's Champions League.

Once again Saturday was not a good day for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United. The Red Devils toiled to a 0-0 draw at home against struggling Crystal Palace and were lucky to get a point.

Things had been looking up for Mourinho's side in recent weeks but the international break has been sandwiched between a poor performance and 3-1 loss in the Manchester derby and yesterday's draw with Palace.

Spurs win over Chelsea yesterday left the 13 time Premier League champions seven points behind the Blues in fourth and already looking like they'll struggle to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Things need to change quickly at Old Trafford in order for United to break into the top four and Mourinho might need an overhaul in January.

According to the Mirror that overhaul could start with Marko Arnautovic. Mourinho was interested in the West Ham forward in the summer but decided against making an offer, now the club are reportedly preparing a bid of around £50 million.

Romelu Lukaku has struggled for form and goals this season and Arnautovic's ability to play on the right side of a front three would also be an option for Mourinho.

However, despite scoring in a 3-1 win over Mourinho's side earlier this season, the Austrian isn't exactly a prolific scorer with 11 being the most he's scored in a single Premier League season.

Arnautovic's agent, brother Daniel, recently said that the former Stoke City forward needed to 'play for a top team,' although whether that includes United right now is anyone's guess.

A big problem for Mourinho might be getting Ed Woodward, and the board, to invest in players in January, especially if his future at the club is in any doubt.

The former Real Madrid boss wanted to add a centre back to his squad in the summer but wasn't given the go ahead to sign anyone and his side looks severely lacking at the back.

Is Arnautovic the man that United need?
