Manchester United might not yet be in a position to make their decision on who will be their next permanent manager but according to reports they're willing to pay big money for Mauricio Pochettino if it comes to it.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already impressed some Manchester United fans enough to have them wanting the club to appoint him the next manager, for some the loss against PSG proved that he isn't the right man in the medium to long term future.

There's no doubt that United have changed in pretty much every way since their former striker took over from Jose Mourinho in December but either reaction is too soon.

The Premier League side shouldn't rush into their decision on next permanent manager, after all it won't help them to make an announcement one way or another right now.

Mauricio Pochettino was originally the favourite to take over from Jose Mourinho but he has fallen behind Solskjaer thanks to the interim manager's brilliant start to life at Old Trafford.

The remaining time on Pochettino's contract means that United would have to pay ยฃ34 million compensation to Spurs for the former Southampton manager and, according to the London Standard, United are not put off by that price with cost no issue for the club.

United had previously been linked with moves for Juventus boss Max Allegri, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone and former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

The latest report suggests that none of those men are in the running any more and that Ed Woodward will make the choice between Solskjaer and Pochettino, most likely at the end of the season.

Pochettino's stok seems to rise and fall on a weekly basis. After Spurs were knocked out of the FA Cup he claimed winning trophies was just about ego, which certainly dented his image.

Just two weeks later their 3-0 win in the Champions League last 16, which all but guaranteed passage to the quarter finals, against Borussia Dortmund made showed his great work in the best light once again.

The Dortmund result came just 24 hours after Solskjaer's first loss as United boss, as they lost 2-0 to PSG.

There's a long season to go to decide who will get the job but Ed Woodward clearly won't be swayed by who the cheaper option is.
