Manchester United have reportedly made a shock move for on loan Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, with just seven days left to replace the injured Marcus Rashford.

The club's top scorer this season was injured in the FA Cup third round replay with Wolves earlier this month and could be out for up to four months, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team short of cover upfront.

According to the Daily Mail, the club have made enquiries to Leicester about Islam Slimani, who is currently on loan at Monaco, with the view to a loan deal to the end of the season.

The paper say that the loan fee for the 31-year-old could be £4 million, with the Foxes capitalising on how desperate the Red Devils are to recruit a striker.

With just seven days left of the transfer window Ed Woodward doesn't have long to help bolster the club's chances of finishing inside the top four and getting a Champions League place for next season.

Rashford has scored 14 from 22 league games and in their desperation to replace his goals the club have also been linked with former loanee Carlos Tevez, who left the club for Manchester City.

The former Sporting striker has scored just eight times in 35 games for the Foxes and has previously been on loan at Newcastle United and Fenerbahce during his spell for the former Premier League champions.

He failed to score in four league appearances for Newcastle and managed one in 15 in Turkey but his time in France this season has at least gone better.

The Algerian has scored seven goals in 11 starts for the Ligue 1 side despite their troubles continuing, leaving them in 10th place in the league.

After Rashford the club's next top scorer in the league is Anthony Martial on eight goals and then Mason Greenwood on four and Daniel James, who hasn't scored since August, on three.

Despite their bad run this season they remain just six points behind fourth place Chelsea and could catch up to the Blues.

They have also looked at a deal for midfielder Bruno Fernandes but owner Joel Glazer has reportedly pulled the plug on the deal.
