Liverpool have shown the Premier League the way in getting transfer business done early this summer and now Jose Mourinho is hoping to follow suit. In fact Manchester United need to do sign one player very soon.

In fairness to the rest of the league they didn't have a chance to beat Liverpool to their first transfer after all the Champions League finalists to the first signing of the summer after they agreed to sign Naby Keita last year.

Then Klopp got over the loss to Real Madrid by signing Fabinho on Monday and really kicked off this summer's shorter transfer window, that will end before the season starts for Premier League sides.

That leaves Spurs, Manchester United and even champions Manchester City looking over their shoulders but United are hoping to do their own business soon.

They have been heavily linked with a move for midfielder Fred but they've got an even more important signing to make first.

According to ESPN the Red Devils are desperate to land Porto full back Diogo Dalot before June 1st when his transfer release clause kicks in.

That's because at just €20 million he would be highly coveted by the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich so to avoid a transfer war the club are willing to pay over the odds now.

Dalot is only 19 and played just eight senior games for the Portuguese side, making his Champions League debut in a game against Liverpool earlier in the year.

Despite that inexperience the youngster has impressed some of the biggest names in Europe and the last thing that United would want is to get into a bidding war, even if it's just over his contract, and risk missing out.

The Portuguese full back can play at either right back or left back and would be back up to both Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young with the pair having played so much this season and United clearly in need of more depth in those positions.

Mourinho is likely to add Fred to his side soon whilst another full back, a centre back and a winger, potentially Gareth Bale, could also be added.

Can Dalot help United stay ahead of Liverpool and plug the gap to City?
