Just when Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker were forging a lethal tandem on the either flanks, the Frenchman suffered a serious knee injury with Manchester City now plotting a January move as cover.

Mendy impressed early on in the Premier League, though he's set for an extended spell on the sideline after injuring knee ligaments.

He's expected to return in April, and Pep Guardiola is reportedly ready to take action by dipping into the clubs deep pockets.

According to reports via Daily Mail, City will reignite their interest in Ryan Bertrand by tabling an offer in the January transfer window.

Guardiola is targeting a replacement with Mendy set to miss a huge chunk of the 2017/18 season.

The Spanish gaffer had expressed an interest in the Southampton full-back during the summer window before eventually signing Walker and Mendy. But it appears he's planning an offer a few months later.

Bertrand, 28, enjoyed a host of loan spells away from Stamford Bridge before completing a transfer. He was loaned out to the likes of Oldham Athletic, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, to name but a few.

However, he sealed a move to Southampton in 2015 where he's since made his name. He's entering his fourth season at St. Mary's with the England intentional attracting plenty of interest.
