Pep Guardiola and Manchester City made a statement of intent ahead of next season, yesterday, by confirming the signing of Monaco's much sought after play maker, Bernardo Silva. And now, the two time Premier League champions are set to continue their summer spending spree with a second new recruit.
As was the case with the Silva transfer, the man behind the deal is Portuguese super agent, Jorge Mendes.
And similarly to the Silva deal, City's imminent newcomer has also been strongly linked with Manchester United.

Given Guardiola's misgivings about Joe Hart, who it appears will never play for City again, coupled with the fact that Claudio Bravo has fumbled from one error to another during his season at the Etihad stadium, a new goalkeeper was put near the top of the former Barcelona manager's shopping list and, in Benfica stopper Ederson, Guardiola may just have found his man.
Although a deal is not yet done, according to Record in Portugal, it will be in the next few days, once Benfica have played the Portuguese Cup final against Vitoria, tomorrow. Should the Eagles win, it will ensure a domestic double for Rui Vitoria's team.

Guardiola had praised the 23-year-old goalkeeper during his time as Bayern Munich manager and talks between the Citizens and Benfica have made 'significant advances' in recent days.
Ederson's contract does currently have a 60 million euro release clause, although it isn't believed City will have to part with such a significant sum for the Portuguese goalkeeper.
Whatever the fee that is eventually paid for Ederson, 50% will be owed to Rio Ave, with 20% of Ave's share subsequently owed to Gestifute, who just so happen to be owned by a certain Mr. Jorge Mendes.
In short, the Portuguese transfer kingpin is looking likely to dominate yet another transfer window.
