Pep Guardiola will have a lot of competition.

The claim of a player being 'the new someone else' is always a dangerous, usually for the player who it refers to. There's a host of clubs wanting a piece of the 'new Paul Pogba' and Manchester City are front of the queue.

For years any Argentinian forward who was any good was the new Diego Maradona. Juan Riquelme, Ariel Ortega, Pablo Aimar, Andres D'Alessandro and Javier Saviola were all handed the moniker but couldn't live up to it, then Lionel Messi came along of course.

There's also been any number of 'new' other players with Patrick Vieira often given the treatment. Abou Diaby being at Arsenal didn't really help with the comparison and his list of injuries didn't help him live up to the nickname.

Of course everyone is looking for the next big thing on the scene but the 'new' name only ever seems to put pressure on a player and they rarely live up to that title.

So the 'new Paul Pogba' is being eyed up by Manchester City. According to the Daily Mail Pep Guardiola's side are tracking Lille teenager Boubakary Soumare with academy chief Brian Marwood having made a 'personal check' on the youngster.

The 18 year old was a PSG academy player and only left the French capital at the end of last season to join Lille where he has already impressed, despite only starting three times for the Ligue 1 side this season.

Marwood was in the stadium last week for the side's match against Rennes, with Soumare starting, but the Premier League leaders aren't the only team interested in the £20 million rated midfielder.

Everton, Leicester and Crystal Palace have also been linked with a move for the highly rated teen, another off the French academy assembly line.

The 'Great Danes' are currently in 18th in Ligue 1 and could sell their highly coveted midfielder before the end of January to fund other moves to keep them in the French top tier.
