Replacing Michael Carrick will not be an easy task for Manchester United but they've reportedly set their sights on three central midfielders ahead of the summer.

By the time the next transfer window rolls around, Carrick, 36, will have called time on his impressive career.

He's being a very influential player for United over the years and so United have to be very thorough in terms of finding someone who can fill the void left by him.

The different type of Sunday League players:

With Marouane Fellaini also likely to leave Old Trafford, midfield has become a priority area to strengthen in, and according to Miguel Delaney from The Independent, United are looking at four central midfielders.

Given United's transfer strategy at the moment seems to be going after anyone rivals City are also keen on, it's no surprise to read that the Red Devils are looking at Nice Jean-Michael Seri and Shakhtar Donetsk's midfielder Fred.

Shakhtar won't sell the 24-year old the cheap though and the word is that City are close to doing a deal for the Brazilian, who impressed in both group games against Pep Guardiola's side in the Champions League this season. He has also talked up working with Guardiola.

In addition, Delaney also reports United are actively working on a move for Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler.

The midfielder, who can play from the centre, right or left but is not an out and out winger, has been in fine form for Marcelino's high-flying Valencia this term.

Soler, 20, only made his first-team debut just under a year ago but has grown to become a regular for Los Che, making 15 appearances in La Liga and recording four assists.

The final man on the shortlist is Borussia Dortmund's Julian Weigl. A classy central midfield player, it's said United are confident of doing a deal for the Germany international.

Finally, the report adds that after landing Sanchez, United still want to sign his former teammate Mesut Ozil, soon to be out of contract though he is reportedly demanding a hefty salary of more than £300,000-a-week.
