Liverpool Ready To Offer €80 Million For Lillie Forward Nicolas Pepe
Liverpool are set to make a move for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe and jump ahead of the queue for the Ivorian with an €80 million offer.
Jurgen Klopp can be pretty happy with his season's work after Liverpool's success in the Champions League and their incredible Premier League run, which only didn't end in similar success because of just how stupidly good Manchester City are.
The big issue now for the German is how he continues to improve the team that has already come on leaps and bounds in his four years in charge.
According to reports Klopp has set his sights on his first target with L'Equipe, via Get French Football, reporting that Liverpool are readying an €80 million offer for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe.
The French born Ivorian has just had a fantastic season with Lille. His 22 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 helped take Christophe Galtier's side to second in the league.
That second placed finish, ending only behind the much richer PSG, means they've qualified for next season's Champions League for only the seventh time.
Pepe is expected to leave the club this season and has previously been linked with PSG, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
The report says that the player's agent has been speaking to perspective new clubs about how much first team football the player will be getting, as he won't move without it.
That might seem unlikely at Anfield, considering how brilliant the front three have been for the past two seasons, but L'Equipe also say there could be some departures from Merseyside.
The French newspaper suggests that Bayern Munich are interested in signing Sadio Mane and that the club could also sell Mo Salah, a rumour that has been mentioned recently before.
Pepe's potential move to Liverpool could also set off a chain reaction of wingers moving in Europe with Gareth Bale, Paulo Dybala and Mane all involved.
Liverpool's Champions League win on Saturday, the sixth time they've become European champions, guarantees that they'll be one of the top seeds in next season's competition.
That makes it a one in eight chance that Pepe would come up against his old team in the Group Stages, should he move to Anfield.
Will Pepe end up at Liverpool?
