Liverpool have already opened official talks for their next transfer target, just an hour after confirming their signing of Thiago Alcantara.

The Premier League champions only announced that Thiago had signed on Friday afternoon, just the second signing of the summer, after weeks of speculation.

Now Jurgen Klopp wants to add a forward to his team as backup for his front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

The Reds have been linked with a few players but, according to several sources, Wolves' Diogo Jota is their number one target and Fabrizio Romano claims that talks have begun.

Athletic journalist Tim Spiers, who covers Wolves for the outlet, has reported that the Portuguese forward is 'on the verge' of leaving the club for Anfield for £35 million.

The 23-year-old moved to the English club from Atletico Madrid in July 2017. It was initially a loan deal before he signed permanently in January 2018 for €14 million.

Jota helped the west Midlands club earn promotion to the Premier League with 17 goals in his first season at the club and has gone one to score 44 times in 131 appearances in all competitions.

Klopp's main front three have performed incredibly for Liverpool in the past few years and have become one of the best strike forces in world football.

However the manager has needed to strengthen his back up options and has generally been quite lucky with injuries.

Behind Mane, Salah and Firmino, the squad only really has Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino to replace them.

The signing of Jota would make Liverpool even more likely to defend their first league title in 30 years.
